They apply their expertise using reliable and scientifically supported methods to assist people to develop practical skills to cope with a variety of difficulties, including:

  • Anger
  • Anxiety
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Dementia
  • Depression
  • Diabetes
  • Drug and alcohol abuse
  • Grief and loss
  • Low self-esteem
  • Panic attacks & panic disorder
  • Sleep disorders
  • Stress
  • Weight loss management
  • Work-related stress
Studies have shown that psychological treatments are at least as effective as drugs in treating the most prevalent conditions, such as depression and anxiety, without the side-effects. In many cases they can be more effective and longer-lasting. A combination of counselling and medication can also be highly effective.

At LifeCare Frankston, Dr Peter Gaitanis is an endorsed Health Psychologist.  In addition to being able to provide general psychological and counseling services, Peter has expertise in developing treatments to reduce problems that can accompany and contribute to illness and injury.

This can include persistent pain, poor sleep, eating problems, anxiety, depression and emotional reactions such as anger and grief.  He can also help people to cope with the diagnosis and medical treatment of acute and persistent health problems.  Peter is able to provide support to people in the WorkSafe and TAC compensation systems, assisting with navigating the challenges of recovery from injury and return to work.
